What is Reiki?

Reiki is an ancient Japanese technique of channeling life force energy through the palms of the hands to promote pain/stress relief, relaxation, and natural self-healing throughout the body on a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual level. Meaning "spiritually guided universal life force energy", Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is the life force energy that flows all around us and through us; it's the energy that keeps our hearts pumping and keeps everything alive. The art of Reiki involves lightly placing the hands in a series of positions just over or slightly above the body to balance, shift, release, strengthen, and/or restore energy throughout the body. The Reiki Practitioner acts as a channel/conduit for universal life force energy to flow through them while holding space/intention for the energy and the Receiver to heal; Reiki can never harm- it can only benefit and support anyone of any age, animal, or intention.


In a Reiki session, you relax fully clothed on a massage table. Through non-invasive gentle touch or no-touch (based on personal preference) and compassionate intention, I work on balancing the energies in and around your body. You may experience the healing energy in forms of sensations like heat, tingling, pulsations, visions, all in connection with the healing and intention guiding the practice. The experience can be very relaxing and soothing and many clients report feeling lighter, more radiant, and refreshed after the session. 


A one-hour Reiki session can produce the effects equivalent to 4 hours of restful sleep. It can remove blocks in the body-physical, mental, creative, emotional, and spiritual; foster peace and tranquility; empower goals and intentions, and heal past or present trauma/conditions.


While Reiki provides many healing benefits, it is not meant as a substitute for medical advice or diagnoses; rather it can be practiced in complement and in harmony with your medical practitioner and other alternative forms of healthcare/treatment. 


You do not have to "believe" in Reiki in order to experience the value/benefits from it, although an openness and willingness to receive the energy can amplify and strengthen the healing. Reiki does not compete with any spiritual or religious affiliations; it can only enhance/support your current belief system.

Why 4 sessions to get started?

If you are completely new to Reiki, it is recommended to provide four sessions within a short time period, such as once a week to once every ten days, depending on our mutual availability. This will jump start your healing process. 


Our physical, emotional, and mental obstacles can develop and worsen over time, and there is no magic wand to remove them. We must work together over several sessions until the body and mind starts responding positively to the application of Reiki energy. During the first session, the body does not know what to expect and often remains closed to the flow of energy. During the second treatment, the body begins to receive the flow of Reiki more freely creating a deeper state of relaxation. The third and fourth treatment are often much stronger and begin to evoke the healing reactions we intend for. 


After the first four sessions are completed, I ask clients to come once a week (if necessary) until they have achieved good results with which they are satisfied.
